dc.description.abstract Initially, preparation of biomass based carbons was initially conducted by hydrothermal carbonization. As-prepared porous carbons were then utilized together with sulfur to form carbon-sulfur composites by using melt diffusion method. The resulted composites were then tested as cathodes for lithium sulfur battery. At current density of 0.5 C, the composite cathodes showed the best electrochemical performance by delivering specific capacity at the first cycle of 1006 mAh-1 and maintaining a capacity of 700 mAh-1 after 100 cycles, which shows its promising prospect as sulfur cathode in lithium sulfur battery. en_US
