Abstract:
The operation of Cipularang Toll Road in April 2005 has an impact of decreasing in train passengers who travel from Bandung to Jakarta. Many passengers change the mode of transportation from train to cars because of time efficiency. Travel from Bandung to Jakarta using car is faster than train. During April 2005 to July 2007, number of travel agents increase in 90%. The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of the operation of Cipularang Toll Road to the change of number of train passengers and car assenger using travel agents, and to evaluate reasons whether some passenger still use train although it needs more travel time. Case study and data collection was carried out at train station and at a number of car pools in Bandung.
The results indicated that during 2005 to 2007 train passenger decreased between 38% and 41%, and during 2004 and 2007 car passenger increased 700%. Based on the interview to a part of train passenger, they still choose train as their mode of transportation because of its comfortable and because of the location of train station is close to their destination, but another part of train passenger change their mode of transportation from train to cars because the location of car pools near to their destination and because of shorter travel time.
