Abstract:
The road network in Indonesia is managed and classified under the Law of Republic of Indonesia Number 38, 2004. As the matter of fact, road sections which are classified as primary local show the highest variation in the aspect of traffic load and land use of supported area. This variation becomes more obvious when primary local road inside and outside of the Java Island is compared. Thus, this article has an aim to elaborate the current method of road classification and proposes an improvement.
The elaboration will focus on the primary local road, where the data of road network in the Municipality of Bogor are employed as a case of study. The findings show a high variation among primary local roads in the aspect of traffic load and land use in this area. Furthermore, elaboration of the related government regulation shows a possibility for adjustment in the road classification method.
This study proposes a division of road classification from one group of primary local into three smaller groups, i.e. primary local I, 11, and II I. The different is the pem1issible heaviest axle load and road geometric in each group. The study reveals the possibility to increase the similarity of the primary local road hierarchy and the potential for application m other areas in Indonesia.
