Abstract:
This study aims to explore a design approach for architectural design which is a combination of diagram method and quality approach. This becomes an important issue to be appointed and studied more in depth in order to be used as a design strategy that not only emerges architectural new forms but also contains local identity aspect within it. The method employed for this research consists of following steps: first of all, to examine the theory of the diagram approach in the design process. Secondly, diagram approach then linked to the issue of locality to obtain a new approach and how to apply it
in the architectural design. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be traced that diagram method incorporates aspects of locality by doing: firstly, abstracting phenomena / external forces to the form of the building which led to the closer relation between building and the context which results identity to the building. Secondly. blurring the boundaries of the building with outdoor space through the principle of permeable edges: Thirdly, creating continuity of outer space to the space inside and vice versa.
The study concluded that the synthesis of diagrams with locality involves three major aspects which are culture, nature and the new form.
