Abstract:
The calculation of the ultimate bearing capacity (Qu) in the design stage is often different than
actual bearing capacity measured by load test, especially for “non-textbook” soils or clean sand,
such as calcareous sand. In this case study, a comprehensive study was conducted regarding the
bearing capacity of the reclaimed soil in the form of calcareous sand soil with medium to dense
soil density in Makassar. The foundation type used is square driven pile 50 cm x 50 cm. This study
is conducted to obtain shaft bearing capacity of the driven pile embedded in calcareous sand from
static load test, dynamic load test, and back analysis using finite element method. The analysis of
this research uses the empirical method/manual calculation (empirical) of the correlation with the
test method in the field in determining the carrying bearing capacity. The output generated from
back analysis are bearing capacity, load transfer, and behaviour of driven pile embedded in
calcareous sand.
