Abstract:
Shrinkage curve is commonly used to determine shrinkage limit. It is a very powerful tool in converting soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) based on gravimetric water content to SWCC based on degree of saturation. However, the effect of initial state of the soil on SWCC is commonly ignored. As such, a single shrinkage curve is commonly used to determine the SWCC based on degree of saturation regardless of its initial condition. In this paper, a study is carried to compare the pre-compression shrinkage curve and post-compression shrinkage curve. The effect of compression on shrinkage curve will then be investigated.
