Abstract:
EPS geofoam is widely used for filling materials that are very light compared to conventional pile filler material. EPS geofoam was originally discovered in Germany bs BASF in 1950 This material can be used to fill landfill in areas that are experiencing problems with landfill availability. EPS geofoam has a very light mass, so that it can be useful to reduce the mass of landfill, and can save time in the implementation of construction projects. EPS geofoam inclysuins placed above buried ppes or behind retaining walls are known to reduce earth loads on these structures leading to safer and economical design. Research is needed to determine the effect of the use of EPS geofoam on sandy soils. The research that is needed is the Direct Shear Test, then the results obtained friski magnitude that occurs between the soil with EPS geofoam material. The resulting friction between the two materials is influenced by the coefficient of friction, which is the value of delta (δ). Delta values generated from this test vary depending on the friction between the two materials that touch. From the test reults, the δ value ranged from 0.4 to 0.85 .
