Nowadays, as the competition between companies increase, companies that are in competition cannot avoid from changes of the environment that made the companies have to respond in order to stay in competitive position. Information systems, including information and communication technology have transformed business practices and enable collaborative working. Meanwhile, among the academics, the field began developing, proved by the emergence of new courses related to these fields in the universities. Various studies conducted to understand what the determining factor of a successful information system. Both tangible and intangible factors were studied in order to examine, whether there is a relationship, either directly or indirectly between information systems with competitive advantage. This paper aims to examine the factors that influence the success of an information system and ultimately affect corporate performance and competitive advantage. Based on the literature study conducted, it was concluded, development of information systems should include a strategic element in the design of information systems to produce a strategic information system. A strategic information system is considered to produce a strategic capability to gain sustainable competitive advantage. |
