Abstract:
The Catholic Church often feels uncertain when accepting a group of people who want to convert to Catholicism. Behind this hesitation there are some worries related to the socio-political impacts as well as the quality of faith of the new prospective members. On the other hand, hesitation also come from those who want to join the Catholic Church. These hesitations arise among them because they are anxious to change all the identities they have, especially the ethno-cultural identity. The Diocese of Bandung confronts such experiences when receiving some members of Agama Djawa Sunda (ADS) ex-adherents. Reflecting on the encounter between Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10:1-48), some insights can be extracted, especially the need and importance of reciprocal repentance on both sides preceded by an open dialogue process.
