Abstract:
Tapioca flour is one of the processed products from cassava. Tapioca flour has
many uses, ranging from household to industrial purposes. With the increase in
population, the need for food is also increased which resulted in the need for starch as
the supporting materials increased.
North Sumatra is one of the provinces in Indonesia which has the second
largest cassava plantation on th island of Sumatra. Currently, the tapioca starch
manufacturing plant in North Sumatra is still relatively small so that cassava plantations in
North Sumatra have not been able to be fully used, which resulted in many cassava
unused. Currently the price of cassava has greatly increased that influecing the price of
cassava starch, which resulted in the establishment of tapioca flour starch processing
industry has become a lucrative business.
A business is run with the aim to gain profits as well as the establishment of
starch making industry, from that a business feasibility analysis should be made which
includes legal and environmental aspects, market and marketing aspects, technical
aspects, and financial aspects.
The establishment of starch making industry has no negative impact to the
environment due to waste treatment facilities. Based on calculation on the financial
aspects, this business has a net present value that is positive with a payback period of 6
years and 8 months on pesimistic condition. Based on the analysis of all the aspects that
has been researched showed that the starch making industry is eligible to run.
