Abstract:
Over the period of 2000-2015, the phenomenon of Bandung's community-based initiatives
has been tremendous, and is estimated to have a prominent effect on the economy. The
ultimate objective of this study is to obtain a distribution of the emergence and development
of community-based groups and to identify the characteristics of community inititativs (CIs)
in Bandung urban region in West Java province, Indonesia. This identification is needed in
order to be able to clearly reveal information that is necessary for analyzing the extent of
CIs' influence on community capacity building as well as on community economic
development through businesses and markets. The preliminary result shows that the
objectives of establishing CIs is either profit or non-profit (hobbies and philanthropy).
However, the objective may change from non-profit to profit motive .
