This paper is based on the idea that foreign policy lies at the intersection between domestic conditions of state and its international context. Since the collapse of Soeharto's authoritarian regime Indonesia's foreign policy has had to face new challenges both at the domestic and international level. The main objective of this paper is to describe how foreign policy has been used by the Indonesian government to address new issues such as economic recovery, terrorism, territorial integrity and human rights violations. It is then concluded that the complexity of those issues necessitates more cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with other government actors as well as civil society actors. |
