Abstract:
This paper is concerned with two main issues. The first is that of Indonesian women working abroad
in the informal sector, mostly as domestic workers. The second issue of concern is the potentials of
other women stakeholders - such as the successful ex-migrants, the activists, the politicians, the
parliamentarians, and many others in addressing issues faced by women migrant workers. Departing
from the notion that it is important to go beyond seeing women as "passive actors" within the context
of labour migration, this paper is an initial attempt to identify the women who have the potentials to
play significant roles in the protection of Indonesian women migrant workers.
