Abstract:
Carbon nanospheres (CNSs) are formed from the pairing
of pentagonal and heptagonal carbon rings. This novel
carbon structure has only now started to attract significant
research activity. In its spherical arrangement, the graphite
sheets are not forming a closed shell but rather waving
flakes that follow the curvature of the sphere, creating
many open edges at the surface. The formation processes
of CNSs can be conducted through many ways, resulting
in different shapes sizes, morphologies of CNSs. The
chosen processes and used raw materials then influence
the properties of CNSs .
In this work we report the synthesis of CNSs using thermal
pyrolysis method with the condition of the presence of
nitrogen carrier gas using activated carbons and palm oil
as carbon precursors. The ratio between activated carbons
and palm oil was selected as the main process parameters
to obtain CNSs.
